2 Chronicles 22:1-12

Pastor Chris’ Commentary in bold italics.

Verses 1-2

1Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place, for the raiders who came with the Arabians into the camp had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, reigned. 2Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah the granddaughter of Omri.

Why does the Holy Spirit mention King Omri in verse 2? Because to know the history of Omri will enlighten us as to the thinking and rebellious nature of Ahaziah. He was just like his great grandfather. Omri was king of Israel for 12 years. The first of the kings of the northern kingdom of Israel to establish a stable, powerful dynasty. He was founder of the capital of Samaria. Omri did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and did worse than all who were before him. For he walked in all the ways of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin, provoking the Lord God of Israel to anger with their idols.

Verses 3-4

3He (Ahaziah) also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother advised him to do wickedly. 4Therefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord, like the house of Ahab; for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction.

Ahaziah was a puppet ruler led by the family of Ahab. His mother Athaliah was the granddaughter of the wicked King of Israel named Omri. This family was known for their hatred of God and their worship of idols. Their only desire was to control and oppress the people of God so that they could acquire power and riches for themselves. Certainly they were being controlled by Satan and his demons behind the scenes.

So how do we apply this to ourselves and our world today? We see the same political intrigue and lust for power across the world right now on a super scale. Omri and Ahab were lightweight hacks compared to the godless, demonic people controlling the world today.

1 John 2:15–17 tells us how we should conduct ourselves. “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

If we just open our eyes and do a small amount of research we see that there is a powerful group of very rich people that control all nations, governments, and peoples. They have no faith or love of God, no honor or allegiance to any country or flag, or any political group. These people are satanists and satan is their god. They exist solely to exercise control of mankind. They do this through their mega corporations and the world banking systems they own or control. They have no respect for human life and actively seek to profit from wars, violence, injustice, genocide, child sex trafficking, adult sex slavery, forced migration, environmental destruction and manipulation, abortion and forced medical interventions that have been proven to do harm and kill many of those who are taking the treatments. They have complete control of all the health systems of the world and the production of pharmaceutical drugsAnd in the last decade they have started to genetically manipulate humans and animals, stating they want to create a better human being. Pretty scary stuff, don’t you agree?

This same well organized global group of thugs is beginning to destroy the world economic systems too. They are creating food shortages, energy shortages, and massive increases in shipping costs. All of this raises prices on goods all over the world which brings massive unemployment to the most vulnerable working classes. People can not afford to purchase basic necessities any longer. Before long these policies will produce widespread famine and death.

That’s not all friends, now they are actively promoting what they call the great reset. This plan, if successful will give them complete worldwide control of every person’s ability to earn income, buy goods and services, sell goods, travel and receive healthcare. Once this reset is established, if anyone disobeys their directives or is thought to be in opposition to the changes being put in place their bank account will be suspended or cut off.

You might be someone who thinks, oh Pastor Christ, why do you have to bring political issues into your commentary on the Bible? Well friend, whoy do you think the Holy Spirit took so much time to explain the politics of Israel and his enemies throughout the Bible? Why does the Revelation of Jesus Christ contain the most explosive political and social commentary ever written? The answer is, God is the One who establishes governments and tears them down. The history of man is a story of mankind hiding and rebelling against the government or rule of God Almighty. It is God who wants to show you the truth about the world governments in our time and day. Wake up sleeping beauty. The end is upon us and the governments of the world want to kill you and your God. These wicked, demonic individuals are the modern day Omri and Ahab times a billion.

What do we do about this? We live with our spiritual and physical eyes wide open to God’s Holy Spirit. We must have His mind leading us and explaning to us what is happening all around us. We must trust God and seek His will, knowing He loves us and sees all that is happening. Nothing escapes His eye and His judgement will surely fall upon all who reject His authority and rule.

Jesus has provided a way for all humankind to escape the terrible day of the Lord and the judgement that is to come upon all people. If anyone rejects Jesus Christ as Lord, God and Savior they will spend eternity in the lake of fire with no hope of e
scape. People have questions right now. They see things falling apart and have no answers for it. We, who follow Jesus Christ have the answers they seek. Do not hide the Light of the World under a basket. Tell people how to escape the coming judgment day of our Great and Awesome God.

Verses 5-9

5He also followed their advice, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram. 6Then he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which he had received at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick. 7His going to Joram was God’s occasion for Ahaziah’s downfall; for when he arrived, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.  8And it happened, when Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, and found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s brothers who served Ahaziah, that he killed them. 9Then he searched for Ahaziah; and they caught him (he was hiding in Samaria), and brought him to Jehu. When they had killed him, they buried him, “because,” they said, “he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart.” So the house of Ahaziah had no one to assume power over the kingdom.

It only took one year for Ahaziah to see the judgement of God come to him. He certainly knew much of the Word of God and had no excuse for his decisions and choice to be in opposition to God.

This is recorded for all of us who came after this time in history. We read it now and the story should make us tremble in reverence for our God. We might say, if I was in Ahaziah’s shoes I would not be so foolish as to reject God like he did. Be careful what you speak and think. We have opportunities every day all day long to obey God or reject His rule over our lives. Ask yourself this, have you ever been tempted to sin, knowing well it is sinful? Have you then decided to sin anyway knowing it was open, willful disobedience to God? Everyone has been in this situation and deliberately disobeyed God. This is the same sin that Ahaziah committed. He knew what was right and disobeyed anyway.

Friends, we must be honest with ourselves and God. We who believe in and follow Jesus Christ have been given the indwelling Holy Spirit and we still choose to sin against God. The people who lived before the resurrection of Christ could not have the Holy Spirit living inside them. But we have every possibility of living an obedient, holy life. We have been forgiven of all sin and empowered by God to be able to resist and avoid sin completely.

Thankfully we have a Holy Advocate, Jesus Christ the Son of God who intercedes for us continually before the Father, reminding Him that we are forgiven. Do not think that we are any better than the wicked Kings of Israel. We are sinners saved by grace, not of works we perform, so we can never boast that we are better than the worst sinner.

Verses 10-12

10Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs of the house of Judah. 11But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were being murdered, and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah so that she did not kill him. 12And he was hidden with them in the house of God for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.

Satan is continually trying to slander God’s character and prove that God’s Word is not true and His promises are not valid and trustworthy. Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah was never supposed to rule in Judah. But God allowed it for six years. She was a part of God’s plan to put Joash on the throne. She thought she had outsmarted God by killing all the heirs of the King. She saw an opportunity to solidify the continued reign of her family and the family of Ahab in Judah by killing every royal heir. This would have rendered God’s promise to have a descendant of David on the throne impossible to fulfill. But God had Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, hide Joash the son of Ahaziah from the murders.

Satan is always trying to destroy God’s plan for our lives. He plants Athaliahs in our path to tempt us to sin against God or to make efforts to prevent something God is doing in us from bearing fruit for God’s plan and kingdom. God will always hide us in His great strength. Nothing will touch us.

Just as God took Jesus to Egypt when He was born, to prevent Herod from killing Him, God saved Joash so he could become King of Judah. Never forget this fact, you have been called to be a King and Priest unto our God. God will make sure you become just that.

God protects His children. We should never worry or fear when situations look bad. We should retreat into our prayer closet and cry out to our Father in heaven. It is He who created us to live forever with Him. He will rescue us every time.
